Sea Turtle Nesting Season is Here! https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2021/6/sea-turtle-nesting-season-is-here Sea turtle nesting season, which begins in March and ends in October, is when sea turtles lay their eggs. Sea turtles lay their eggs on sandy beaches or low, sandy dunes. In Florida, we are surrounded by beaches that sea turtles use to nest. To help give the sea turtles an easy nesting season, here are some tips to keep in mind.

1- Keep beaches clear.

When you are wrapping up your beach day, make sure you grab all of your trash and belongings, including any beach chairs or furniture. Not only does this aid in keeping our beaches clean for the next person, it also helps the sea turtles. Sea turtles could get stuck in furniture and could possibly end up eating the trash while on shore.

2- Fill in holes on the beach.

Did you try to test out that children’s metaphor “digging a hole to China” in the sand? Before you head out, make sure to fill in the hole, as sea turtles could become trapped in the hole.

3- Do not disturb the sea turtles.

Taking a late night beach walk and see a momma sea turtle? Do not approach it. When you are observing it, make sure that you are standing a good ways away, that way you do not scare off the sea turtles. Sea turtles like to be alone while nesting, so approaching her might make her go back into the ocean prematurely. While it might be nice to snap a photo or turn on your flashlight to see her better, it is better for the sea turtle to lay her eggs in peace.

4- Keep the beaches dark.

In order for sea turtles to come onto shore and nest, beaches need to be dark. This means turning off any lights on the beaches. If you live on beach front property, make sure to close your blinds or curtains after the sun goes down. If you do need to use a flashlight, there’s a way that you can make it safe for sea turtles. Buy turtle friendly flashlight stickers and use them to filter the light or

Whether you are a tourist on vacation or a native Floridian, you can all do your part to help sea turtles during nesting season. Use your best judgement when it comes to nature, as you never know what might be going on. For more rules and tips, you can go to Visit Florida’s article about sea turtle nesting. Their article lists do’s and don’ts when it comes to sea turtle nesting.

First Impressions in the Digital Age https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2021/3/first-impressions-in-the-digital-age What is a potential client's first impression of you? Whether it comes from online, through marketing material, or even in person - all professionals aim to project an image that is trustworthy and successful. Updating your headshot can accomplish that and so much more!

An updated headshot or branding-oriented photo session is a popular method of maintaining a current, professional appearance. It’s an investment in your business’s image. It helps showcase your best self to your potential clients - leading to additional buyer confidence.

A consistent, professional online presence is more important than ever. Headshots are an opportunity to showcase your personality and make a powerful first impression.

Tips to make the most out of your headshot session:

-Discuss with your photography the type of mood you’d like to convey and your industry. This often will affect their suggestions for locations or lighting styles.

-Wear clothes that you feel your best in. The more confident you feel, the more you’ll express that in the photos.

-Consider having your hair or make-up professionally styled. These photos represent an investment that can last you more than a year.

If your image, style, or appearance has undergone a significant change it’s likely time to update your photos. It’s always best for your photos to line up with who potential clients will meet.

First impressions are immensely important. Do your current marketing photos reflect the image and goals you want to present to potential clients? Professional images express who you are to potential clients and promote buyer confidence.

Winter Studio Sessions https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2021/1/winter-studio-sessions As the weather turned cooler - even for Florida - we have been excited to do new work in our studio.  Although some of that includes traditional portrait styles and few items that Santa brought our way, it also included art portraits like the one below.  It utilizes a specific editing style so the model becomes more 'doll-like' and exaggerated.

Each completed image aims to tell a story - or help the viewer create their own story.  We've enjoyed the opportunity to explore a new avenue of creativity and are looking forward to sharing more from this series.

Night Portraits https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2020/10/night-portraits Weddings can be hectic.  And that's why we try to be prepared for anything.  For these newlyweds, their couple's photos ran into rain so we all went under the pavilion they rented on Navarre beach and began their reception.

We knew we wanted a few more moments captured between these two - so after dinner and cake, we slinked off for some additional photos.  In the one below, the blurry lights in the back are from their reception.

Moments like this, are exactly why we love working with off camera flash.  We completed their wedding gallery with a few more moments - captured forever through photos because we aim to be as prepared as possible for anything. 040A3160040A3160

Lifeguard Photo Op! https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2020/10/lifeguard-photo-op We love to always celebrate firsts with weddings - and this quick snapshot marks one!  The lifeguard was doing one last sweep before the end of her shift and wished the newly wedded couple 'Congratulations'.  That created the openning for this photo - the first of it's kind for us.

As you are visitng Florida, please familiarize yourself with the flag system and adhere to any warnings.

  • Double red flags: means that the water is closed to the public. This is a flag that means water conditions are dangerous and it’s not worth risking it.
  • A single red flag: means high hazards such as high surf and/or strong currents. This typically means, swim at your own risk. But if you are a poor swimmer or have small children, it’s safer to avoid the water during these conditions.
  • A yellow flag: means that medium hazards such as moderate surf and/or currents are present. It’s still the same factor of “swim at your own risk,” so make your best judgement before making that call.
  • A green flag: mean low hazards or a consistent calm condition. This is not extreme by any means so go enjoy the water! But always be cautious since ocean conditions can change.
  • A purple flag: means that dangerous marine life such as jellyfish, algae, etc, have been spotted. This flag indicates that you should swim at your own risk.

Emerald Coast Theatre Company Event https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2020/10/emerald-coast-theatre-company-event As Emerald Coast Theatre Company enters its 8th season - they hosted a newly socially distanced Taste of the Season event.  This annual event showcases the upcoming productions through musical numbers and announcements like the addition of productions aimed at pre-schoolers.

The theatre is taking ongoing Covid precautions like distanced seating, but it continues to be a safe haven for kids and adults alike.

We love being a small part of ECTC, and are looking forward to their upcoming season.

Hurricane Sally's Approach https://www.eamphoto.com/blog/2020/10/hurricane-sallys-approach If you live on the Gulf Coast - hurricanes come with the territory.  We all watch the cone of uncertainty, go through our checklists, and brace ourselves for the 'after'.

As Hurricane Sally made a slow approach across the region, the skies turned gray - and this lucky couple had a spectacular storm shelf cloud for a photo backdrop.

It didn't rain as much as the image might otherwise suggest, thankfully.  Especially since the couple had a reception planned under the pavilion at Navarre's Marine Park.

How are the colors so vivid? It's thanks to the use of off-camera flash!  We love utilizing fill light to ensure all our clients look their best and maintain the vibrant skies that the Emerald Coast is known for.
